We all know those people with naturally flawless skin, who swear that their skincare regime involves two things, plenty of water and a good night’s sleep. I seriously Hate Those People! Growing up I’ve always struggled with my skin, I had so much acne and cystic bumps on my face, that I kept a standing appointment with my dermatologist. Even as an adult, blackheads, rashes, hyper-pigmentation, you name it and I’ve probably dealt with it.
Then about two years ago, I added a beauty section to BusyWifeBusyLife, and the way I looked at skincare began to change. As a beauty blogger, I’m constantly sent products to try. At first, it was really exciting. I’d be thrilled when the mail arrived, anxious to see what goodies were gifted to me. (I know #hardlife) But I very quickly came to realize that just because a product is free, doesn’t mean it’s right for my skin.

As a blogger, my job is to impart knowledge, inform, entertain, and inspire my readers. So, when I test products and give an opinion on which ones are good for my skin, I take my recommendations seriously. I understand that my reputation is on the line every time I write a blog post or share something to Instagram. The last thing I want is for you to spend money on a product or service that isn’t worth it.
Blogging has taught me a lot about skincare. Now, before you start scrolling and looking for the magic answer to perfect skin – let me stop you right there because there isn’t one! I have learned through a lot of trial and error that it takes time to find the right combination of products for your skin to get the glowing complexion we all desire. Also, beyond your skincare regime, having a great esthetician you can turn to, will make a world of difference.
Joanna Vargas Spa
As a beauty blogger, my skin is very important to me, and at times it’s put under a lot of stress. So I was thrilled for the opportunity to visit the newly opened Joanne Vargas Spa here in Los Angeles. Celebs, A-listers and those who know the importance of having a great esthetician, have been visiting Joanne for years at her 5th Ave. location. The spa, located near The Beverly Center, offers face and skin treatments to keep your whole body looking flawless.
Power Peel Facial
I loved how this spa approaches skin care differently, described as “nature meets technology, ” and it’s apparent in every treatment. During my first visit, I received a Power Peel Facial. Due to the name, I was worried that my skin was going to be peeling for days, but it was quite the contrary. The noninvasive treatment instead included a light diamond peel followed by LED light and oxygen therapy. It was finished off with a detox mask to eliminate dead skin cells, pull out impurities, and supercharge my skin’s natural healing abilities.
During my next visit a few months later, I received the signature treatment all of Hollywood raves about. The Triple Crown Facial starts with some microdermabrasion, which we all know helps smooth the skin and unclog pores. Then Asia, my esthetician, used a micro-current and oxygen-infused therapy to refine, lift, and tone my skin. By helping to reduce puffiness and strengthening the muscles of the face, it’s almost like getting a facelift without having plastic surgery. My results latest for two and half weeks after. #Amazing!
How to Improve Your Skincare
The key to flawless skin is not found in a bottle – trust me I’ve looked. The truth is, if you have skin problems or want to preserve the great skin you have, then you have to work for it. Try these tips to help put your best face forward.
- Wash your face twice a day – The impurities from the air end up on your face, not to mention the 500 times a day we add to it by touching our face. When you are feeling lazy and not wearing makeup, you can take a shortcut like me. I use micellar water to cleanse my face at night.
- Change up your products seasonally – I personally know that weather affects my skin immensely. For instance, when it’s hot and humid I use different products than when the weather is cold & dry.
- Stick to a routine – With skincare, consistency is key. This is my current routine:
Cleanser, Eye Cream, Serum, Moisturize
Cleanser (I rotate between first two products), Anti-aging Serum, Night Cream
Once a Week Treatments
Monday, Wednesday, Friday
- Pamper yourself- Getting a facial every month may not be in your budget, but when you can afford it, I truly believe it’s worth it. Call the spa you are interested in and discuss your skin issues and let them recommend the treatment based the information you provide.
