It’s 7:30 am, your alarm didn’t go off, and you have to be at work in 30 mins! Don’t panic!!! Getting ready in a hurry doesn’t have to be a nightmare. I’ve always boasted about the quickly I go from undone to dolled up. I’m a pro! I can get ready in a hurry and so can you with a few helpful techniques.
Know Your Wardrobe
If you want to get ready in a hurry, then having a clear picture of what you have and where you can find is the key. Take the time to organize your closet, so you are not looking for things and wasting time. Try organizing by color and then sort by casual to dressy, this way you will always be able to find something for the occasion. When you aren’t in hurry, try different combinations of outfits so you have an idea of what to wear when the time comes.
Pick it Out and Put it On
This process is probably the most difficult part, but knowing what to wear is the key to getting ready quickly. By having an idea of what is appropriate for different occasions makes getting ready a lot easier. I’ve watched my friends literally change clothes 3 to 4 times before they settle on what to put on. STOP! This will only drive you crazy and leave you with outfit remorse.
Plan Your Outfits As You Shop
If you keep your wardrobe in mind when you shop for new clothes, you’ll easily be able to coordinate or mix and match your new pieces. Survey your closet before you go shopping this way you know what you have and what you need. Buy items that can seamlessly be integrated into your wardrobe, so you aren’t stuck trying to create a look when it’s time to get ready.
Accessorize with Ease
Once you get dressed, you are still far from “ready” to walk out the door. The key to deciding on shoes, a handbag and jewelry is not to overthink it. When in doubt, your everyday bag and jewelry is always an option. Group by color tone, keep warm neutrals like browns, tans, reds and olive greens together and your cool tones like blue, black, gray, purple and light pinks together to get together even quicker.
5 Minute Face
Being able to put on a quick face will help you get out of the door super fast. When you’re in a hurry, you can take shortcuts to create a glamorous look. Try a quick conceal and powder, eyeliner with mascara, and a bold lip. I recommend trying this routine out when you aren’t in a hurry to make you look beautiful!
Here are a few of my tips to always keep in mind when getting ready:
- Have a set of “go-to” options of tops and bottoms that pair together easily.
- Consider that it is always better to be a little overdressed than underdressed.
- Don’t try new outfit combinations when you are in a hurry.
- If you can’t decide on separates, grab a dress or jumpsuit for easy styling.
- Don’t overthink your shoes – choose between 2, put one on each foot and take a selfie to decide.
- Stick to a theme with your jewelry, wear 1 or 2 statement pieces, or stack the minimalist to create a look.
